>> a conversation about casinos in annapolis. is a $1 billion plan that could overhaul part of the area. they heard the pitch for a full- blown casino at the national harbors. there are some who support this, but others are concerned about the cost. one business once the casino for itself. brad bell is live with the latest. >> if you will pardon the pun this is a high-stakes debate. he has a long way to go. they started today with the hearing. >> they come to the national harbour to stroll the water front pads for exercise. for the development is just the harbor. they like the stores and

there are those like the richardson family. we met them at the harbor heading to a post wedding luncheon. >> i do not want it here. it is supposed to help the community and schools. i have yet to see that. >> the voters of maryland will decide this because it has to go through a referendum. in the meantime, highly placed sources are telling as the key to getting the bill approved is to convince the existing slot machine operators that new competition will not destroy their business. >> thank you. apparently maryland has not hit the jackpot with the slot machines the state purchased. the washington post reporting the state is paying $10,000 per machine that year. it will spend $50,000 more annually than first estimated. state officials admit they will cost a lot. they still say it will pay off in the end. >> a high-profile arrests

during a protest. george clooney and his father and a virginia congressman were handcuffed after they refused to leave the area. george clooney was released a few hours later after paying a $100 fine. >> nearly 100 d.c. government employees are facing disciplinary action for refusing to sign an ethics oath. vincent bretelles city employees they have to sign a pledge to abide by a new ethics manual or face consequences. city employees cannot buy birthday gets or -- birthday gifts or sell girl scout cookies at work. >> the investigation into mishandled remains at the dover air force base mortuary has lead to disciplinary action.

they will discipline two supervisors accused of retaliating against workers to try to expose wrongdoing at the facility. a third supervisor has resigned from the air force. the whistle blower's actions have led to significant improvements at the mortuary. still ahead on abc 7 is at 6:00 how one thing is to blame for the spike in consumer prices that has taken a lot of money out of our pockets. >> the latest report on getting somewhere by plan on time is looking up. >> three more big election events on the republican scheduled.

sunday is the puerto rico primaries. mitt romney and rick santorum are fighting for every single one of them. earlier this week, rick santorum stepped into hot water when he said if puerto rico once to gain statehood it needs to make english its primary language. he has not back down yesterday he tried to explain the position. >> that is something i think -- >> the race heads to illinois on tuesday. mitt romney started the day there at the pancake house outside of chicago. >> we will win on tuesday. >> sister date newt gingrich was realistic about his chances. -- yesterday new gingrich was realistic about his chances. a new poll found republican voters to support newt gingrich

at 6:00 underside. >> a sharp increase and gas prices drove consumer prices up last month. >> the consumer price index rose 0.4% last month which is the largest increases in 10 months and was largely due to a rise in gasoline prices. excluding food and energy, core prices rose one-tenth of 1%. >> airfares are also going up. the on-time rates of the flights are up. they're getting passengers to their destination on time at the best rate in 18-years. january numbers show an on-time arrival rate of 84%. flight cancellations were down as well as the number of mishandled bags. they credit the mild winter for good numbers. >> a staple of doing business

showers in southern maryland. a little shower persisting near hancock, maryland. this is the area we will be watching drifting away. with the cool damp air and a cooling trend, there is some dense fog to deal with overnight. even though we may start the day with a little fog or cloudiness, i think it will clear out and we will get some sunshine going. temperatures getting back to about the 70 degree mark. it may be the farther east we are in the upper 60's and west of washington. 59 african national. 70 in charleston and its work. in time or the next few days, the southwesterly wind will prevail and it will be right back into the middle 70's here. we will watch for any shower activity to drift off tonight. it will stay mild and a cloudy. we will get a break with some sunshine and a big range of

redskins park today. i will keep you posted on that. peyton manning has worked out for the forty-niners and the broncos. they were both held at duke university. there he is getting off of the plane in north carolina. the dolphins and cardinals are apparently out of it. the forty-niners are getting paid manning a physical. he hopes to name a team by the end of the weekend. in baseball the national lost to the yankees' 4-3 in 10 innings today. there is a move to rename beaver stadium at penn state after george -- after joe paterno.
